    Question

We used GDC to change mfhd data and after executing the change, any journal with issues checked in suddenly had those issues added to 866 fields in their holdings records in the Cataloging module. This did not show in Preview. Why is it adding these fields?

    Answer

MarcExport has always added 86x fields to exported holding (MFHD) records that have issues checked in in Acquisitions, as Acquisitions data cannot otherwise be exported. GDC is built on top of some existing functionality. GDC exports records using MarcExport, transforms the records with its own code, and reimports the records with BulkImport.

In Voyager 9.1.0 and higher: MarcExport has a new option (-D) to prevent additional 86x fields from Acquisitions data, and 86x fields will no longer be added to MFHDs during GDC Data Change jobs.

    Additional Information

Because these fields are added on export, before the record's transform step, the job's Data Change rules can be updated to also remove these fields during the transform step.
