How to create a keyword search that searches both the Voyager Bib record and Holdings record fields simultaneously?

    • Product: Voyager
    • Relevant for Installation Type: Multi-Tenant Direct, Dedicated-Direct, Local, TotalCare

    Question

Can I define a keyword search in the System Administration module that searches for fields in both the Bib and MFHD at the same time?

    Answer

It's not possible to have a combined bib/mfhd index.  Bib uses the GKEY index, while mfhd uses the HKEY index.  These are completely separate and can't be merged into one single index in SYSADMIN.

However, it is possible to search both indexes at the same time, via a Boolean search.  In the public catalog, use the CMD search.  Note that your patrons do have to know which terms are bib and which are mfhd.

    Here's an example:

    1. In the OPAC make the "Command Search" option available and select it
    2. Type "GKEY sage AND HKEY rosemary"

    Additional Information

The CMD search option can be made available in the "Search Basic" section of the webvoyage.properties file.

The GKEY and HKEY search terms don't have to be different as in the above example.  You can search for the same keyword in both indexes.
