    Question

What needs to be configured to allow patrons at the Satellite campus to request items from the Main campus and put the item in transit when it's ready to be sent to the Satellite campus hold shelf? The two campuses share a Voyager instance.

    Answer

Configuration in System Administration > Circulation will allow this to happen.

Let's say the campuses have the following locations in Voyager:

Main: Main Stacks, Main Reserves, Main Circulation Desk
Satellite: Sat Stacks, Sat Circulation Desk

In order for a patron to have an item from Main Stacks routed to Sat Circulation Desk to be picked up:

    • The patron group the patron belongs to needs to have permissions to place holds (set in SysAdmin > Circulation > Policy Definitions > {policy} > Matrix > any applicable matrix lines for the patron groups/item types to be impacted)
    • The patron would need to place a Hold and set Sat Circulation Desk as the Pickup Location (this location needs to be set as a Pickup Location in SysAdmin > Circulation > Policy Definitions > {policy} > Locations)
    • When the item is returned to the library, it will be discharged, and a message will indicate to the operator that there is an outstanding hold and it should be routed to the Sat Circulation Desk to fulfill that hold. It will be given an In Transit status.
    • When the item arrives at Sat Circulation Desk, it will be discharged and placed on the hold shelf, and the patron notified the item is ready for pickup.
