    Question

Are the data in the mfhd_item table (e.g., ITEM_ENUM, CHRON) stored in UTF-8 or some other character set?

    Answer

Only bibliographic data are stored as Unicode in Voyager, and the rest is Latin1. Since the mfhd_item table is not bibliographic data, it is stored in Latin1.

    Additional Information

"MARC data" is stored in MARC21-UTF-8 format in Voyager.  This includes BIB records and MFHD records.

See the Voyager Technical User's Guide (various sections) for further details.
