Modify due date does not update Overdue status to Charged

Problem Symptoms

When due date is modified from the patron charged item index, item Status does not change from Overdue to Charged.

Cause

This is expected behavior.

Resolution

The modify due date functionality is not intended to be a substitute for the renewal functionality. Renew functionality should be used to renew overdue items as it will also check to see if the patron has reached his renewal limit, check the library's renewal policy if the item is overdue or on hold, and update the item's status.
 

Modify due date functionality was not designed for any of those functions, but rather to update active due dates.
