    Question

When save mfhd, receive: "The call number in this holding record could not be indexed using the Call Number Type specified. The record has been indexed using the rules for the 'Other' call number type." What does this mean?"

    Answer

The call number does not meet the standards indicated by the call number type specified by 852 first indicator value.

For example, if the call number type specified is set to Library of Congress (852 first indicator is 0), but applying LC normalization rules fails, the type will be stored as "Other" and the message will display in the client.

The first indicator will remain the same in the MARC record, but the value in MFHD_MASTER.CALL_NO_TYPE in the database will be 8.
