    Question

Set up Mapping Tab for Bulk Import Rule?

    Answer

Mapping Tab maps location and item information from incoming records to library locations & item types.

Map data from incoming record (MARC Item Type, MARC Location) to Voyager data (Voyager Item Type, Voyager Location) for each unique location/item type combination needing to be mapped for incoming records, or to a single default location/item type. See examples in Additional Information.

    Additional Information

Example: Map to one default location/item type

MARC Item TypeVoyager Item TypeMARC LocationVoyager LocationCall Number Hierarchy
    *Book*MainLibrary of

Maps every mfhd created by BulkImport to location code for Main and every item created  (if creating items via BulkImport) to Voyager item type of Book.
NOTE: Even if not creating item records via Bulkimport, Voyager Item Type is required field. Value not used in that case.

Example: Map to different locations/item types

MARC Item TypeVoyager Item TypeMARC LocationVoyager LocationCall Number Hierarchy
    serSerialacqAcquisitions DeskLibrary of Congress
    perPeriodicalacqAcquisitions DeskLibrary of Congress
    *Book*MainLibrary of Congress
BulkImport will first look for location/item type combination of ser / acq, then per / acq in incoming records to map to corresponding Voyager item type and location.
If not found, will use default mapping (third line above) and map to Book/Main

Library of Congress in example is name of Call Number Hierarchy defined in System Administration > Cataloging > Call Number Hierarchies.
