    Question

Why are the charge count data provided in Access queries that use the CIRCCHARGES_VW view different from the charge transactions data generated using the CIRC_TRANS_ARCHIVE and CIRC_TRANSACTIONS tables?

    Answer

The CIRCCHARGES_VW view has a number of quirks.  For example, if an item has been deleted since it circulated, its charges are not available in this view. Other deletions including Patron Groups, Locations, and Item Types also may impact the data provided by the view.

Consider using the tables directly if you have concerns about these constraints.

    Additional Information

The "Circulation Transactions by Patron Group and Item Type" canned report in Prepackaged Access Reports uses the CIRCCHARGES_VW view.

Also note that the same constraints exist in the the CIRCRENEW_VW view.
