    Question

What does COPY_ID identify, and how is it generated?

    Answer

COPY_ID identifies a specific line item copy. That is, if you have a purchase order with 1 line item, and that line item has 3 copies, each copy of that line item would be assigned a COPY_ID in the database. This is done automatically, and each ID is unique. This allows each copy to be associated with funds, claimed, marked, etc. independently of other copies on the same line item.
