    Question

Why does a search for "Popular Music & Society" deliver also records with the title "Popular Music and Society" - but searching for "Popular Music and Society" does not retrieve records with the title "Popular Music & Society"?

    Answer

The ampersand "&" is considered a special character and therefore ignored in the search like other special characters (dash, slash, or hyphen).

Only special characters and articles are ignored in the search. The word "and" is considered as a part of the search string and not ignored.
