    Description

We see a /proc directory on our server with hundreds of subdirectories and files rapidly being written (-- timestamps with the current date/time --).  Is this normal?

    Resolution

The /proc directory is a virtual filesystem which has nothing to do with disk use.  (In Linux, you don't see it in the "df -h" dislay; in Solaris, you do.)  You should ignore it.

If there seem to be problems, they should be directed to your Linux/Solaris system administrator.
