Backups prior to global changes

Description

Are there backups which can or should be made before running the manage-21 (Global Changes -- to doc records) or manage-62 (Update Item Records) Services?

Resolution

Yes.

manage-62 allows you to submit the job without any input file, which means that it could (inadvertently) update all of the item records when only a subset is intended.  The z30 table should be backed up via the file-03 Service prior to running manage-62.

In the case of doc record updates, the print-03 Service can be used to back up the bib, hol, etc., records to be updated by the manage-21, manage-37, or manage-18 Services. This is described in the article " Backup preceding p_manage_21 / p_manage_37 ".

print-03 could also be used to back up bib or authority records being deleted by that manage-33 Service.
