    Expand of identical call numbers

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20

    Problem Symptoms:
When expanding ITEM information into BIB record identical call numbers are displayed when the data is from ITEM record (and not from HOL record)

    Cause:
    Defect

    Resolution:
    rep_change 2222 (Aleph 21)
Description: expand_doc_bib_852_1 - When expanding ITEM information, there was no deduplication even for items with the same sub-library, collection and call number. The reason is that the 852 field expanded from items info contains in sub-field $$p the item barcode, which is of course different.

Solution: This has been corrected with the addition of a parameter to the expand program (see Implementation Notes): the parameter BARCODE. If this parameter is set to "N", the expand program does not include the barcode in the 852 field and therefore the deduplication can be applied.

    Implementation Notes:

In order to prevent the item barcodes from being expanded in the 852 field when using expand_doc_bib_852_1, add the parameter "BARCODE=N" to the line with expand_doc_bib_852_1 in [bib_library]/tab/tab_expand. Note that this program already accepts three parameters, so this must be the fourth. If these parameters are not in use, three commas must be written. Examples:

    ! 1 2 3
    !!!!!!!!!!-!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!-!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    GUI-DOC-D expand_doc_bib_852_1 ,,,BARCODE=N
    GUI-DOC-D expand_doc_bib_852_1 852##,b,WID,BARCODE=N
