French version of the GUI for Aleph v20

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20

    Description:
We have Aleph v20 running on our TEST server. We ran the upgrade express kits and reinstalled a new GUI for version 20. The installation of the GUI imported special changes (e.g. library.INI) from the v18 version, and kept the French display. But for all the new functionalities (e.g. course reserve, batch service, staff privileges, etc.), the display is in English only.

Where can we find a French version of the GUI for Aleph v20 ?

    Resolution:
The "Minor Release Guidelines" sheet in the Excel sheet "Aleph_20.1_ServicePack_n" (in Download Center) states:

    GUI Installation

Installation of minor releases requires full GUI reinstallation. After installing this service pack, download the GUI from $aleph_dev/aleph/pc_exe.

Since the Major Release of Aleph 20, there is an option to install additional languages other than the default English. This can be done upon initial GUI installation. If the GUI is installed on top of an existing GUI installation, this option is not available.

You can upgrade your existing settings and have the French language environment installed. Take your current C:\AL500 that is at version 18 and rename the folder to C:\AL500_18. Then complete a fresh install of version 20 into C:\AL500. During this install you will be prompted to install the French language files. Then copy C:\AL500_18 over top of C:\AL500. Finally install version 20 again into C:\AL500. This will upgrade your version 18 settings that are now sitting in C:\AL500 and the French language folders are also available.
