    How to make Title hold request in GUI pre version 18

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 16.02

    Description:
    How can I make a "title hold request" in GUI ?
    By "title hold request" I mean the following:

    We have bibliographic record A (system number 278182) and it has two items: B (barcode 278182-20) and C (barcode 278182-30).
    Item B and C are both on loan.
    Patron X comes to circulation desk and asks the circulation librarian to make a hold request for him.
    Patron X does not care which item, he just wants to next available one.
    The circulation librarian uses GUI and chooses item B and makes the hold request.
    The circulation librarian has to choose one item when making hold request.
    The circulation librarian does not check "Item Matching Filter Only Selected Item" on the hold request form.
    Item C is returned.
    The GUI gives no message that there is a hold request, even though the "like item" (item B) has a hold request.
    In a "Title hold request" there should be a message that the item has a hold request, because it is similar to the one on which the request was made.

    Resolution:
    In order to be able to make a "Title Hold Request" in GUI you need to set column 11 of tab15.eng and tab15.gre to N instead of Y for relevant item statuses.
    We already did this on your system (as previously agreed upon) to confirm that it really works.
    This means that when bibliographic record A has item B and C and both B and C are on loan, and request is made on B, and C is returned, the circulation librarian will get a message that there is a hold request for the item. This is the case provided the GUI has the following setup:
    ALEPH > Options > Setup return options > Display list of hold requests

    Note that the header to tab15.lng is erroneous and a change is being made in official version. It now states:

    ! COL 11. 1; ALPHA {Y,N}, UPPER; ;
    ! Specific item;
    ! if this item is requested in the Web OPAC, the request will be for
    ! the specific item, not another like copy (Y/N);

    and should be

    ! COL 11. 1; ALPHA {Y,N}, UPPER; ;
    ! Specific item;
    ! if this item is requested in the Web OPAC or GUI, the request will be for
    ! the specific item, not another like copy (Y/N);
