    Description:
Would there be any implications in making our current WOW (keyword OWN field index) a direct index. One of the problems that we've had over the years is that libraries cannot retrieve a record out of their logical base until it has been indexed. Since the direct indexes get built at the time of record insertion or update this would make the record available in the simple logical bases(ie. wow=ndc) rather quickly.

We have 6 1/2 million records with 63 different OWN codes. Would the Aleph system handle this? Do you know of any reasons not to do this?

    Resolution:
Site tried this and it didn't work. (Site set up the OWN field as a direct index and ran p_manage_05. It did not work. Although the entries were created in the Z11 table for all of the records, the searches did not work. Every search of WOW=XXX returned a set of 77 records.)
