From the Brief List, the "jump to" box doesn't seem to work (jump to a number in the current sequence?)
Am I doing something wroing?

Resolution:
The "jump to" box works as follows:
In the "jump to field" put in the value of the sorted field to which you want to jump, and hit enter.
The record with the desired text in the field will then be highlighted.
For example, when the brief list records are sorted by year, put in "1987" and you will jump to the record with year
1987. When the brief list records are sorted by Author, put in "Smith, John" and the record with author "Smith, John" will be highlighted.
To know which field the records are sorted by click the "sort" button and choose a field.
