    Overview of Aleph publishing process

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20 and up

    Desired Outcome Goal:

Successfully publish records from Aleph to Primo. The initial publishing or a subsequent Delete and Reload pipe in Primo.

    Procedure:

    1. If test runs of publish-04 ("Initial Publishing Process") have been done and the xxx50 z00p ("ALEPH Published Documents") is not empty, then ...
1a. dlib xxx50 (or whatever the $usr_library is)
    1b. do util a/17 1 for z00p -- make sure it's z00p!

    2. Do a complete run of publish-04 with the desired From Document Number / To Document Number values specified. (The normal values are 000000000 and 999999999.)

    3. Do a complete run of publish-06 ("Create Tar File for ALEPH Published Records")with "Range of documents" for "Create Tar File For ...", with From Document Number / To Document number specified (the normal values are 000000000 and 999999999), and "Y" for "Update Date Flag". (The latter is necessary in order to have $aleph_root/tab/tab_publish_timestamp be created.) The location of the output file is described in article Location of publish-06 output file.

    4. If ue_21 has not been running, there is probably an accumulation of z07p (Publishing request) records -- which are extraneous following this run of publish-04.
    a. dlib xxxnn <where "xxxnn"is the bib library or Course library>
    b. util a/17/1 for the z07p (to drop/create the z07p table)

    5. On subsequent runs of publish-06 specify "Create Tar File For ..." "From last handled date" and "Y" for "Update Date Flag"

    Additional Information

In step 1b of the above Procedure, if there are existing z00p records for other publishing sets which are *not* to be deleted, then, instead of doing the util a/17/1, run publish-05 ("Delete ALEPH Published Records") for the publishing set (such as PRIMO-FULL) which you want to clean out.

After the publish-04 ("Initial Publishing Process"), the ongoing creation of z00p records is performed by the ue_21 Publishing daemon.

See the "Aleph Publishing Mechanism" document for more information.
