Sorting of numbers in display of downlinked records (Type AND)

Desired Outcome Goal:
Sorting of numbers in display of downlinked records (Type AND) is alphanumeric but should be numeric. How can this be achieved?
Procedure:
Unfortunately it's not possible to change the sorting for this specific field from alphanumeric to numeric.
Additional Information
Some customers use author/title instead of volume number for the sorting. Maybe this is an option also for you.
The question refers to a specific field in MAB format.
