    Description:
When adding an 853 / 853X pattern record using templates in XXX50/pc_tab/catalog, sub-field 8 automatically appears in the record as part of the process. This happens for all templates in XXX50.

According to the guide, this field should only be used for cases where more than one pair of 853 / 853X fields exists in the same record. It must be used in both the 853 and 853X fields to link each field to the other.

Can you tell me where this sub-field appears?

    Resolution:
853, 853X subfield 8 is a non-repeatable, linking subfield. The numeric value in this subfield identifies linking pairs of 853/853X tags. The software automatically creates subfield 8 when a prediction pattern is created, either via the Catalog Editor or via the Pattern forms within the Acquisition GUI's Serials tab.
For ease of use, subfield 8 is applied regardless of whether there is one or more 853/853X pairs in the record.
