In v16 of the Aleph client, select users were able to display budget balances because we had setup their Access Rights to Allow them to display the bugets list, balance, and transactions. In v18 we find that these same users cannot display a budget balance if they do not also have permission to allocate, transfer, encumber, or expend budgets. One assigns permission to do these latter functions by clicking on the Budget button of the Staff Privileges window, selecting the 50 library, and checking the boxes for these functions. Can you tell me why we lost our ability to display budget balances without also having permission to allocate, transfer, encumber, or expend budgets?
I find that if I give just one of the Budget permissions to a user from the Budget button on the Staff Privileges dialog - say 'Allocate', this is sufficient to permit that user to view the budget - assuming you have also given that user permission to view budgets. Even though you have give that user permission to allocate to the budget, they won't actually be able to do so unless you have also given them permission to update budgets, in general.
