Unclear Diacritics in Floating Keyboard
- Article Type: General

Description:
Floating Keyboard characters are too small to be clearly understandable to cataloger.
Need a list naming each button or tooltips.
Resolution:
The problem that keyboard signs are too small to read can be helped by making changes in font.ini and keyboard.ini.
In AL500\ALEPHCOM\TAB\FONT.INI, change the current height (default 16) in column 8 to 36. This will make the keyboard characters MUCH larger.
AlephKeyboard 0000 00FF Tahoma Y N N 36 DEFAULT_CHARSET
AlephKeyboard 0401 045F Tahoma Y N N 36 DEFAULT_CHARSET
AlephKeyboard 0384 03CE Tahoma Y N N 36 DEFAULT_CHARSET
AlephKeyboard 05D0 05EA Tahoma Y N N 36 DEFAULT_CHARSET
AlephKeyboard 0000 FFFF Arial Unicode MS Y N N 36 DEFAULT_CHARSET
In C:\AL500\ALEPHCOM\TAB\KEYBOARD.INI change all BtnWidth and BtnHeights to the below values:
BtnWidth=44
BtnHeight=40
This will make the keyboard buttons big enough to display the enlarged letters.
Restart the GUI.
More information about the Floating Keyboard is available in the Staff User Guide, Cataloging Section, ALEPH Keyboard.
Regarding explanations of the keyboard signs:
Each individual PC has the ability to fully customize both the keyboards that are displayed and their contents.
The Unicode for all the signs is kept in C:\AL500\ALEPHCOM\TAB\keyboard.txt.
The default Diacritics keyboard contains the following signs:

The source for these above "translations" is the http://unicode.org/ site. Most of them came from the http://unicode.org/Public/UNIDATA/Index.txt page.
This would also be a good source for codes if you want to customize your keyboard.
