What Happens if Item Statuses are Deleted from Tab15?

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 17.01

    Description:
We have a few item statuses that are set up in tab15, tab16, etc. but are no longer in use. I would like to delete them to make sure staff do not use them in error when creating new item records. However, there are historical circulation transactions that used these item statuses. If I delete these item statuses from various DEL50 tables, will there be any lasting impact that I will regret?

    Resolution:
I suggest that you make such a change only if SQL shows that there are no longer any Z30s with that item status. (And, even so, there will still be z30h's, z36's, z35's, etc.)

I suggest that rather than deleting these, you change the tab15.eng description to the item status number + DO NOT USE. For example:

    HYL 92 HD L 92-DO NOT USE! Y Y N N Y Y N Y Y 00

That way, if it does come up in some context, you will still see the item status number.

If there are still items with the item status, you could do the above, plus you could add the status to the xxx50 tab_www_item_desc.eng table, new with version 17 rep_change 849:
"A new table - tab_www_item_desc.eng - is now available to define different texts for Web OPAC. Currently supports different text for collection name (tab40 col. 4.), item status (tab15 col. 5) and sub-library name (tab_sub_library col. 5.)."

That way, you could display the regular item status in OPAC, while at the same time, displaying the "DO NOT USE" in the GUI.
