What is the z980 table? What is "Update z98 from z980"?

    Question

I would like an explanation of the z980 table and what it is used for.
It seems to be recreated during indexing but then kept after that.
There are no cleanup routines to remove information from the table and the table is growing.

    1. What is its use and what are the proper maintenance procedures for this table?
    2. What is "Update z98 from z980"?

    Answer

The z980 table is a supplementary file related to the z98 (Words) table.
The z98 has a Z98-MAP-DATA field which contains a map of documents which contain a particular word in a particular field.
The service Build Word indexes (manage-01) writes only z98s.
The ue_01 online indexing program writes both z980 and z98 records.
If there is no existing z98 record for this word/field combination, it writes a z98. Otherwise, it creates a z980, supplementing the existing z98.

The z980 table is dropped/redefined by the manage-01 service, after which the ue_01 starts fresh writing to the new z980 table.
