    Description:
When should you use ret-03 vs. using ret-01?

    Resolution:
If the fields which you are retrieving are *indexed* (in a Word, Browse, or Direct index), then you should use p_ret_03. If the fields are not indexed, you will need to use p_ret_01. p_ret_03 is faster because it uses the indexes. Note: rather than running p_ret_03 you can search online, in the OPAC, save the set created by the search on the server, and use it as input to batch jobs. But if the batch job is in the job list, p_ret_03 lets you do such a search as an automatic batch job.

The following sentence has been added to the p_ret_01 Help: "If the field or fields which you want to retrieve are indexed (in a Word, Browse, or Direct index), then p_ret_03 will perform the retrieval faster than p_ret_01 and you should use p_ret_03 instead."

See also Article 14417 which talks about the use of the Z00R instead of p_ret_01.
