&request=test searches in hosted www_server logs and z69
- Product: Aleph
- Product Version: 20, 21, 22, 23
- Relevant for Installation Type: Dedicated-Direct, Direct, Local, Total Care
Description
We're an Ex-Libris-hosted site. We see "find_code=WRD&request=test" searches from a 10.28.nn.nn IP address in our Aleph www_server logs every five minutes or so. Why is this? {They generate records in the z69 (OPAC event) table, which we use for OPAC statistics.}
Also, we see thousands of "Initialized from Address 10.29.nn.nn" messages in the sip2_server logs, oclc_server logs, and other server logs.
Resolution
These monitoring transactions are produced by the Ex Libris hosting monitor/load balancer to confirm that the servers are up and functioning properly.
The www_server "request=test" transactions should be ignored -- and subtracted from any z69 OPAC statistics which you produce.
v22 rep_change 2387/v23 rep_change 2091 allows for the possibility of preventing -- via an aleph_start IP_ADDRESS_NO_LOG parameter -- the "Initialized from Address 10.nn.nn.nn" messages from being written, but this these messages do no harm and such prevention is not normally necessary.
