How do I prevent automatically adding a call number to new holdings in the MDE?

I am creating a new holding in the MDE. When I save the holding, it automatically pulls in a call number. What can I do to prevent this?

Answer

Set the first indicator of the 852 holdings field to "9" so that the call number mapping rules will not be invoked on the record, which leaves the call number fields blank.

Typically saving a new holdings record will invoke the call number mapping rule, depending on which number in the first indicator is part of your template. Choosing an unused number like 9 will prevent the rule from acting upon save.
