    New Books workflow causes loaned items to be recalled when the item due back date approaches

    • Product: Alma

    • Desired Outcome Goal:
      Items checked out from "New Books" temporary location are recalled when the item's Due Back Date is near
      These items should be renewable and not recalled
      Upon return, the items should then be sent to the permanent location

      Procedure:
      Review the configuration:
      (1) Define which actions shall not trigger a recall in: Fulfillment Configuration Menu > Loan Recalls Configuration
      (2) The "Recalls Loans" flag can be turned off for the relevant Work Order Type (in: General Configuration Menu > Work Order Types > Edit)
      Use this parameter to prevent recalls when the loan is created via the 'Create Item' button in Patron Services

    Additional Information

    Here is one suggested workflow:
    (1) Adding items to the Location ‘New Books’
    * Select Scan In Items > Change Item Information (tab)
    * Select Change Type: Temporary
    * Select Location: the preferred temporary location, e.g. "New Books"
    * Select Due Back: the preferred due back date
    * Scan the item barcode

    (2) Removing items from the Location ‘New Books’
    * Select Scan In Items > Change Item Information (tab)
    * Select Change Type: Restore
    * Scan the item barcode

    More information:
    * If a book is returned after a Due Back Date has passed the act of returning the item will serve to ‘restore’ the book. However, a Pick From Shelf slip is generated as well. Staff should be aware of this behavior.
