    Question

Why (or when) can users place requests, if their "User" record has an expiry date, or their "Patron Role" has an expiry date?

    Answer

A User with expiration date in the "User" record, can place Requests in Primo (or Alma). To disable this option, the parameter check_for_expired_account should be set to true.  When true, requests (as well as Resource Sharing requests) cannot be placed in Primo (or Alma).  The parameter is found in: Configuration > User Management > General > Other Settings.

This parameter does not stop users from making purchase request, even if the check_for_expired_account is set to true.

Secondly, the "Patron Role" expiration date can impact the ability to place requests. If the date is in the past, requests are not allowed.

    Additional Information

"check_for_expired_account" is explained here: "Configuring Other Settings (User Management)".

More about the User record and its expiration date is here: "Managing Users".

And how to Update Patron Role in Bulk.
