The Economist (ISSN: 0013-0613) is available from Gale through various database products, such as Gale Academic OneFile and OneFile: Business, but is also available as a product called The Economist Historical Archive which includes content from its inception of the title in 1843 until 2020.

The Economist Historical Archive includes the UK version of the title, and the records from Gale are mapped as newspaper articles. The other Gale products include the international version, and these are mapped as magazine articles.

To standardize the experience of Gale records for The Economist, we will change the content type of The Economist Historical Archive records to magazine articles. This change will bring the Economist Historical Archive records out of Newspaper search and into the main search interface (for Primo users).

Please note that the upcoming change will not result in the merging of the duplicate records. This is due to discrepancies in metadata cataloging between the UK and International editions obtained from Gale.

Records originating directly from The Economist Historical Archive source will present a direct link based on the Gale Document ID, ensuring proper functionality and seamless access. For records sourced from other Gale products, a Link Resolver will be utilized, based on metadata.

These links might not always function perfectly due to the metadata differences between editions.

This change has been made as of 2024-05-16.
