Leganto FAQ
Clarivate has announced a new strategy for the Books organization and more recently published a letter to the library community in order to further address questions and provide clarifications. Below are answers to the questions we're hearing about Leganto in light of the changes.
We will also host a Leganto Q&A webinar on April 17 at 11 am (New York), 4 pm (London). We will record the session for those who cannot join live. Register here

Will Leganto be discontinued in the future?
The change to Clarivate’s books strategy does not impact our plans for Leganto’s future. We remain committed to the Leganto product and its growth. We remain committed to investing in features and workflows to benefit our customers. Our development plans for 2025 still include an AI syllabus assistant, recommendations for OER, an integration with Alethea, and more, as shared on the 2025 roadmap for Leganto prior to the books announcement.
What is the future of Leganto and Rialto together?
In response to purchasing trends, Rialto will expand from a selection and acquisition tool to an informed fulfillment solution, backed by analytics and recommendations to help libraries make the best decisions for their institution and users. We see a natural partnership between Leganto and Rialto now and in the future. Leganto data, which is data about what is required for courses, is critical to inform collections strategies. Additionally, libraries need to fulfill course materials requirements efficiently and effectively. To that end, we will continue expanding and integrating both products to provide you with streamlined workflows and data to support your needs.
Please see the Rialto FAQ for more information specific to Rialto.
Is Clarivate using my Leganto data to inform the ebook subscription package?
No. Leganto data is not shared across Clarivate.
In the 2025 Roadmap presentation you announced that you will be creating two specific integrations between Rialto and Leganto. Is this still happening?
Yes, we are still planning to integrate Leganto data into Rialto. We are planning two new integrations for 2025.
- New query builder value for “Leganto reading list”: You will be able to search the Rialto marketplace to identify titles that are on reading lists and will be able to further refine searches by citation tag. Purchases will link to the relevant citations, including updating the citation metadata to match what was purchased.
- Newer edition available to purchase: Add an indication in Leganto when a newer edition not currently held by the library is available for purchase.
We use Leganto and Rialto. What will the workflow look like when we buy books to support reading lists in the future?
Rialto will continue to offer ebooks from the existing publisher-direct and aggregator platforms, and the Rialto team is planning to expand their publisher partnerships in the future. When purchasing via Rialto, the workflows will remain as they are today, and the purchasing workflow with Leganto will continue to be enhanced. We will not remove the existing integrations between Leganto and Rialto, including the to options to search Rialto via Purchase Requests or via the Citations Task List. Course information will remain visible in Rialto, and the visibiltiy of this information will be expanded in 2025.
Will we lose access to books that are on reading lists?
Your library will not lose access to Ebook Central books. Ebooks that you have already purchased from ProQuest will remain yours, in perpetuity. Links to Ebook Central titles in Leganto will continue to work as they do today.
We have saved a lot of time in our print purchasing workflows via Rialto. What will we do in the future?
Rialto is planning to keep print awareness up and running - but the ordering experience will change. The Rialto team is designing a "pass through" workflow where the user will see the print item in Rialto and then place the order with the provider.
We have been able to activate ebooks from ProQuest very quickly up to now. How long will it take to activate resources from other providers?
See the Knowledge Article Expected ebook activation time for Rialto platforms.
We don’t use or no longer plan to use Rialto to buy books. What will the workflow look like when we buy books to support reading lists in the future?
Leganto citations can be linked to newly acquired inventory as soon as there is a bibliographic record in Alma. The bibliographic record is created when the PO line is created.
There are several ways to create orders in Alma: Orders can be initiated in Alma and sent to the vendors, orders can be initiated in the vendor system and sent to Alma using import embedded order data or real time ordering for vendors that support this integration.
She the Knowledge Center for more information about the Alma purchasing workflow, importing embedded order data from different vendors into Alma and real time ordering via API, including with GOBI.
Once you have ordered a title and loaded the PO line into Alma, you can link the citation to the new inventory. You can link individual citations to the library inventory using the Manual Locate option from the citation action menu in Alma or the Manage link to library option on the citation action menu in Leganto.
You can also link citations to inventory in the repository in bulk using one of two jobs:
- Process and Enrich Citations job (Fulfillment > Advanced Tools - Reading Lists > Process and Enrich Citations). On this page, you can choose to match all citations in courses starting on or after a certain date and ending on or before a certain date.
- Reading List Citation Process and Enrich (Admin > Manage Jobs and Sets > Run a job): This job is the same as the Process and Enrich Citations job, but it can be run on a set of records and it can set to run on a scheduled basis.
For more information see Process and Enrich Citations in bulk
When we order resources, we overlay brief records with full records, but the citation metadata doesn’t update.
We recommend you use the Reading List Citation Update Task (Admin > Run a Job) to synchronize changes with the repository. You can run this job on demand or on a scheduled basis (weekly, for example). You can run it against a specific set of citations.
Once set up, the process will run in the background according to the schedule and update the citation metadata for citations where the bibliographic record has been updated. Note that it will be updated anytime the bibliographic record updates—including changes not related to overlying brief order records.
If you’re not familiar with the manual jobs in Alma see the related documentation and training videos available.
We are automatically updating holdings in Alma with Ebook Central. What will happen when we switch to another provider?
The automatic upload of electronic holdings integration is supported with several providers - see a list of providers and more information about the workflow here: Automatic Upload of Electronic Holdings. Alma is also working to add additional vendors to this integration.
In addition, you can use the portfolio loader to activate portfolios in bulk using a file of portfolios that, in most cases, is available from provider's administrative site. See Using Portfolio Loader for Adding, Updating or Removing Portfolio Information in Bulk
Today we get real time turnaway reports from ProQuest which enables us to understand that students are trying to access something and having trouble. Will we be able to get the same reports from other providers?
We suggest you reach out to the provider to request the data you need.
For Ebook Central users, turnaway reports will continue to be available on LibCentral. Visit our Support Article for steps to access a turnaway report in LibCentral: Ebook Central Admin: How do I access turnaway information for titles in Ebook Central?
Ebook Central will continue to support license upgrades, including automated upgrades to perpetual purchases on Ebook Central, indefinitely. This means that libraries can upgrade owned ebook titles in Rialto even after June 30, 2026.
