Advanced Tools
As part of ongoing efforts to centralize collection development activities within Alma under Rialto, a set of existing advanced tools from Resources > Advanced Tools is also available under Collection Development > Advanced Tools. These tools provide libraries with powerful capabilities to analyze, manage, and optimize their collections.
The following advanced tools are available under Collection Development > Advanced Tools:
- Overlap and Collection Analysis — This tool enables libraries to compare electronic collections and title lists to identify overlapping and unique content based on titles and coverage. It supports collection development decisions by helping users evaluate potential purchases, renewals, and cancellations. For detailed guidance, see Working with Overlap and Collection Analysis.
- Duplicate Title Analysis — This tool enables libraries to identify potentially duplicate bibliographic records based on shared identifiers such as ISBN, ISSN, or system control numbers. It supports collection development by improving metadata quality and helping detect duplicate records. For detailed guidance, see Using Duplicate Title Analysis.
- Merge Records and Combine Inventory — This tool enables libraries to merge duplicate bibliographic records into a single preferred record while combining all associated inventory (both physical and electronic holdings). It supports collection development by helping maintain a cleaner, more accurate catalog. For detailed guidance, see Using Merge Records and Combine Inventory.
To access and use these tools, a user must have the Collection Development Manager role plus one of the specific operational roles required for each tool:
- Overlap and Collection Analysis: Purchasing Operator, Purchasing Manager, Repository Manager, or Electronic Inventory Operator
- Duplicate Title Analysis: Repository Manager
- Merge Records and Combine Inventory: Catalog Administrator, Catalog Manager, or General System Administrator
