Summon: Provider Content in the Summon Index

    • Product: Summon

What provider content is available in the Summon Index?

The Summon Index contains over three billion items and continues to grow. Content is indexed at the record level (full-text, metadata, or both) from information provided directly by publishers and content providers.

We are strongly committed to the Open Discovery Initiative (ODI) and have heard a lot of customer input regarding improvements to the reporting available from Summon and the Index. To that end, the In Index Flag in Client Center/Intota indicates whether a database is indexed in Summon and also displays the database's coverage percentage for full-text databases in Summon. For more information on the flag, please see this article: Summon: In Index Flag

See the Summon Release Notes for newly indexed content.

To confirm if particular content is covered in the Summon Index, best practice is to use Summon's Add results beyond your library's collection checkbox to query all items in the index. See this document for additional details about the checkbox.

How Do I Add Provider Content to the Summon Index?

While we continue to welcome new requests and add scholarly content to the index to support student and researcher workflows, we are increasingly selective about this content in order to help with our ultimate goal of adding high quality content that offers the highest value to students and researchers. Submitted content requests will either be accepted or rejected; accepted requests will move forward with sample review, provider agreements, etcetera, and rejected requests will be noted for later review based on the number of repeated requests or significant changes in the makeup of Summon's users.

To submit a new content request, use the Content Idea Exchange; sharing your feedback with the Ex Libris community is greatly appreciated.

All requests will be assessed. Note that the timeframe for evaluation, provider communication and indexing in Summon can vary greatly so we are unable to provide updates or timelines for when a new content source will or will not be added.

In the meantime, you can link to content not in the Summon Index by highlighting it as a Best Bet, or as a Custom Panel.

We encourage you to follow the Summon Index Release Notes in the Content Corner to stay up to date on new content additions to the Index.
