    Symptoms

When attempting to link to the VGER Data Source in MS Access, the following error occurs:
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor.

    Cause

The username specified in the VGER Data Source is not correct.

    Resolution:

    1. Verify the correct read only username and password for oracle and change the username/password for the VGER Data Source to match.
    2. Continue following the procedure to add the external data source, and link tables outlined in the Oracle 10g ODBC Installation Guide
