    Problem Symptoms

    • Importing records from file on shared drive
    • After importing some records from file, receive errors:

Record #nnn in import file failed the Unicode conversion. Unable to display the record.

Unrecognized record format encountered. Unable to continue the import function. [nnn-1] valid records extracted.

    Cause

Operators accessing same record file save records simultaneously, causing simultaneous update to file. File becomes corrupted.

    Resolution

Option 1: Have a dedicated file for each operator rather than sharing.

    Option 2:

    1. Open Cataloging.

    2. Uncheck "Delete records from work files once saved to database" / "Delete records from import file once saved to database" in Options > Preferences > General
