The ODBC Timeout property in Voyager Prepackaged Access Reports

    • Product: Voyager

    Question

What is the ODBC Timeout property in Prepackaged Access Reports?

    Answer

The default value for ODBC Timeout is 60 (for 60 seconds).

Access sends the query to the server via the ODBC drivers.  Oracle then executes the query and sends back the results to Access.  However, if a minute passes (60 seconds) from the time Access sent the query, it sends an interrupt message to Oracle ("User requested cancel of current operation") and tells you that the query has been canceled.

You can change the ODBC Timeout value to something higher than the default 60 seconds following these steps:

    1. In MS Access open the query in Design Mode.
    2. Right click it and open “Properties…”
    3. Click in any blank area to get the “selection type: Query Properties” showing in the Properties Sheet (i.e., click the background external to the tables shown in your query.)
    4. Change the ODBC Timeout property to something greater than the 60 second default.  If you change it to zero that means this query will never time out.
