    Question

What is the difference between Hold Life and Hold Shelf Life in Voyager, and where are the settings configured?

    Answer

The Hold Life is the number of days the system keeps a hold request active before it cancels the unfilled request; the Hold Life interval is set in SysAdmin>Circulation>Policy Definitions, on the Locations tab under Settings for the Circ Happening Location associated with the hold.

The Hold Shelf Life is the number of days an item is kept on the hold shelf for a patron pickup once the item has been discharged to fulfill the hold; the Hold Shelf Life interval is set in SysAdmin>Circulation>Policy Definitions for the Policy definition that contains the item's location, on the Matrix tab's Intervals tab for the item/patron group type of the hold in question.

    Additional Information

More information can be found in the System Administration User's Guide in Chapter 5, beginning on pg. 5-54.
