    Question

Why are bulk imports of MARC records running slowly?

    Answer

Several conditions can cause bulk imports to run slowly. Two of the most common are:

    • Running several imports at one time. Solution: run 1 BulkImport process at a time.  See: Overview of "Allow Multiple Instances of Bulk Import"
    • Need for a keyword regen. See "How do I determine if keyword regen is needed?"

During large bulk import projects, Support recommends that you do not run records through keyword indexing during the loads, but instead do frequent regens after loads are processed.

    Additional Information

See also UTIL Menu Guide for information on running keyword regens in 8.1.0 and more recent versions.
