    Question

Why does the heading display as Partial Heading Validation in the Authority Validation screen when the heading is "Nonexistent" in any authority records?

    Answer

When Voyager does heading validation, it looks for the heading in the three tables:
    HEADING
    BIB_HEADING
    AUTH_HEADING

If heading exists in AUTH_HEADING, then heading is valid.
If heading exists in BIB_HEADING, but not in AUTH_HEADING, the heading will be partially valid.

The heading as found in the HEADING table will display in the "Near Heading" Authority Validation's column. The heading found in BIB_HEADING will display in the Bib Heading column.
