How do we retrieve our usage statistics from a provider, so that we can upload them into 360 Counter?

The following instructions will guide you in manually retrieving ("harvesting") usage-statistics reports from a provider (vendor) before you upload the report into 360 Counter.
    • For usage reports from COUNTER-compliant providers, manual uploads will likely be unnecessary given that you can set up SUSHI-Protocol Harvesting (via our Data Retrieval Service (DRS)) to automatically retrieve and upload usage-statistics reports.
Most content providers make their usage statistics prominent on their web sites and easy to download.  You should have login credentials for each of your content providers.
NOTE: SUSHI setup information for COUNTER-compliant providers must be stored in the DRS Request Form so that DRS' Sushi-Protocol Harvesting can access usage-statistics reports for you. Login credentials for non-COUNTER-compliant providers can be stored in Vendor Statistics Metadata.

    Retrieve Your Usage Statistics

    1. Log in to your content provider's site and locate the usage-statistics reports. These reports are not always easy to find on a provider's site; often times the reports will be within an area such as "Your Account" or "Usage" or "COUNTER Reports" or "Reports".

If you are downloading the reports, you have 500 characters of notes in Vendor Statistics Metadata to explain where and how each non-COUNTER-compliant vendor posts the report, so that you can find it more easily next time.  For COUNTER-compliant providers, you can store such information in the Library Note field in the DRS Request Form.
    2. Locate the reports in .csv or .txt format. If the reports are only in Excel or another similar software format, you'll need to Save as .txt or .csv

Note: Diacritics are handled better using the .txt option.
    3. Save the reports on your local computer: Set up a special folder for your reports and save them using a standard file-naming convention for your .txt files, something like, vendor_report-number_date-of-usage-data.txt. For example: Emerald_JR1_Dec_2015.txt.
Now you're ready to upload either your COUNTER-compliant usage-statistics report or your non-COUNTER-compliant usage-statistics report, depending on what is available from the provider.
