    Why do patrons sometimes get errors when linking to resources using 360 Link's 1-Click feature?

    Libraries using the legacy 360 Link interface should jump here. If you are not sure if your library uses the legacy or the improved interface with Index-Enhanced Direct Linking, check your 360 Link Administration Console settings.

    Cookie Errors in 360 Link with Index-Enhanced Direct Linking (IEDL)

    If your proxy is configured to set cookies in patrons' web browsers, this can cause 360 Link access problems when patrons are using Internet Explorer and possibly Safari.
    If your patrons are having problems with cookies and they are within your library's IP range (in other words, they are "on-campus"), then read this to see if the issue is the provider.
    Your patrons are probably experiencing cookie security issues if all of the following are occurring:
    • Patrons are having difficulty viewing the article within the sidebar helper frame when using Internet Explorer;
    • Your library uses a proxy; and
    • Patrons see the "red-eye" graphic at the bottom of their browser screen:

      Click on the red eye to reveal which proxy cookies are being rejected.
    Here are some options for solving this issue:
    • If you can, configure your proxy to not set cookies. This will prevent the red eye from appearing in the first place.
    • Configure your proxy with a P3P configuration to allow your proxy's cookies to comply with the P3P directive (required by Internet Explorer and Safari). See the following for more information on this topic as it pertains to EZproxy:

      http://www.oclc.org/support/documentation/ezproxy/cfg/p3p/
    • Have patrons manually allow the proxy to set cookies in Internet Explorer: Click on the red eye and right click on the URL to allow the browser to set cookies coming from the proxy.
    • This process can also be automated by your IT department through the use of "site rules" to the Internet Explorer installation base that will allow Internet Explorer to store cookies from the proxy. Details can be found in the following Microsoft support documents:

      • How to Create a Customized Privacy Import File
  • The last option would be to consider turning off the enhanced 360 Link (with Index-Enhanced Direct Linking and the Sidebar Helper Frame) and going back to legacy 360 Link. Currently there is not a way to take advantage of Index-Enhanced Direct Linking without the sidebar helper frame.

  • Cookie Errors in legacy 360 Link

    If your proxy is configured to set cookies in patrons' web browsers, this can cause 360 Link access problems when patrons are using Internet Explorer and possibly Safari. This has been seen particularly with some installations of Innovative's III proxy and EZproxy and only applies when both 1-Click and the helper window are turned on.
    If your patrons are having problems with cookies and they are within your library's IP range (in other words, they are "on-campus"), then read this to see if the issue is the provider.

  • Turn off the helper frame, or turn off the helper frame and 1-Click.
