Using Alma work orders to track rush cataloging requests

    • Product: Alma

    Problem

How can catalogers keep track of rush cataloging requests? For example, if a selector has requested a rush order for a patron, how do we track the order through technical services to know that the item is rush cataloged upon receipt and sent over to circulation desk for request fulfillment.

    Solution

Work orders can be used to keep track of rush cataloging requests, see configuration and workflow steps below.

    1. Create a work order status for processing "Rush" orders, see Adding a Work Order Type Status document in the Additional Information section for details.

    2. When creating the PO line, check the Rush check box, see Manually Creating a PO Line document in the Additional Information section for details.

    3. When receiving, check the Keep in Department box, and select the Rush work order status created in step #1, see Receiving Physical Material document in the Additional Information section for details.

Note: if the Keep in Department box is not checked, the item will be transited to the appropriate circulation desk upon receipt.

    4. From the work order department in Alma, catalogers access the Manage In Process Items page, then filter by the Rush work order status to find items that have been marked as "Rush". See Post-Receiving Processing document in the Additional Information section for details.
