    Question

Why is the Users Synchronize job still overriding user account fields that were updated manually?

    Answer

There are several fields on user accounts that upon being updated manually within Alma (or by using the "Open for Update" function) are then subsequently NOT overriden by the Users Synchronize job (for further information, please see External user data: behavior of SIS synchronization and API). These include:

    • user_group
    • job_category
    • pin_number
    • preferred_language
    • campus_code
    • rs_libraries
    • user_title
    • library_notices

However, if a future job run uses an XML file which contains the field's last value that was inherited from the SIS before the manual change was made, then the job will "override" manual changes and will reset any "protected" field. The field will once again be updated by the Users Synchronize job going forward.

This is equivalent to selecting the "original value" option that appears in the drop down of selectable values after a field has been manually updated. For further information please see Editing Users.
