Alibris is an online marketplace that enables independent sellers worldwide to market books and other media. It can be particularly useful when you want to purchase books that are out of stock (unavailable from James Bennet or Baker and Taylor) or out of print. When the Alibris module is activated, Rialto includes Alibris in its market searches for books, and integrates Alibris items within its search results. This enables users to locate and order Alibris print books directly from the Rialto interface.
    • Alibris support in Rialto is limited to print books sourced through Alibris and does not include other material types, such as electronic books, music, or videos.
    • Alibris is currently only available for UK customers.
The availability of items from Alibris changes constantly. Because of this, Alibris books cannot be added to lists in Rialto. (For information about adding titles to lists, see Searching the Rialto Marketplace.) The only action supported for them is adding them to the cart. Furthermore, before each item is actually ordered, its availability is checked again to make sure it is still available.

    Activating Alibris in Rialto

By default, the Alibris module is not activated in Rialto. To activate it, submit a case with Rialto technical support.

    Locating Alibris Books

When the Alibris module is activated, Marketplace searches for books can include Alibris offerings. For UK customers, if there are available items on the Alibris platform that match the search criteria, the Alibris items are included in the search results. When you select such an item from the search results in the Works page, two tabs appear in the Offerings page, at the top of the Facets panel: a Market tab (Marketplace Tab icon.) and an Alibris tab (Alibris Tab icon.). The Market tab, which is open by default, shows a list of titles available in the Rialto Marketplace. Select the Alibris tab to see what is available from Alibris.

    Alibris Facets

The Alibris tab has its own facets:

    • Acceptable Condition – This facet lets you select the minimum acceptable condition. Select an option and the list of available items is filtered so that only items in that condition or better are displayed. For example, if you select Fine / Like New, books whose condition is Fine / Like New or New are displayed, but books whose condition is Very Good or worse are not displayed.
    • Binding – This facet lets you filter the list so that only items with the selected type of binding are displayed. Only one option can be selected at a time.
For general information about working with facets, see Working with Facets.

    Book Descriptions

When you select an item in the Alibris tab, a description of the item opens in the Details panel on the right. The description is composed of the following components:

    • Summary section – general information about the item
    • Notification about Alibris orders
    • Seller Details from the Alibris listing
    • Description of the book from Rialto records

    Ordering from Alibris

Alibris items can be added to the cart like other items available from Rialto. They are identified by an Alibris badge in the cart (as well as in the Offerings page):  Alibris Flag showing the Alibris logo and its name. or, when space is limited, Small Alibris Flag showing the Alibris logo but not its name..

The ordering process itself differs from the standard procedure in a few ways:

    • Each Alibris item is a single physical object, so each item in the cart has a quantity (Qty) of "1," and this cannot be changed. To order multiple copies, if they are available, you must add each one to the cart individually from the Offerings page.
    • Before an Alibris order is finalized, Rialto checks to make sure that the item is still available. If it is not, an Item no longer available notification appears at the top of the Details panel in the cart, and you can remove or replace the unavailable item.
    • The Move to List and Duplicate actions are not available.

As with other items ordered from the Rialto UK supply center, Alibris titles can be supplied shelf-ready.

To find Alibris items in the cart, under the Supplier facet, select Alibris.

    Managing Alibris Orders

Like other orders, orders for Alibris books can be managed in the Orders Awaiting Approval page (Market > Orders > Orders Awaiting Approval) and the Order History page (Market > Orders > Order History). In these locations, you can find Alibris orders easily by selecting Alibris under the Supplier facet.

    Alibris orders cannot be cancelled.

For general information about managing orders, see Monitoring the Order Status.
