    Question

Can a new left-anchored or headings index be created in Voyager?

    Answer

    • Left-anchored and headings indexes cannot be created or modified in the client. However, Ex Libris Data Services can create customized or make changes to most left-anchored indexes.  Note that after a left-anchored index is created or modified by Data Services, a full regen of the database is required.
    • Heading indexes, with the exception of NAME, are pre-defined in the Voyager software and cannot be added or modified due to the complexity of rules when they are built.
    • If a keyword index will satisfy search needs, these can be created as needed in the System Administration client.
      • See: How to add or edit keyword search index definitions

Open a Case and specify what the desired index should be, and Data Services can provide a quote for this work.

    Additional Information

When creating custom indexes, the count fields (e.g., catcount, opaccount, etc.) in the SEARCHPARM must be set to 0 instead of NULL.  If they are set to NULL, the new index will incorrectly sort to the top of the dropdown lists in the OPAC Advanced Search and the staff clients.
