    Question

What is the difference between a "validated" heading and an "authorized" heading.

    Answer

A heading is 'authorized' when it is a 1xx field in an authority record in the database.

Heading validation is the process of checking for authorized headings and references when adding or updating bibliographic records. The validation window shows which headings in the record are authorized, and which are not, and allows operators to make authority control decisions while adding or updating bib records.
