GDC:Duplicate same Marc Tag to new tag does not work

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Voyager
    • Product Version: 8.0.0

    Problem Symptoms

If you want to copy the same tag to a new tag, instead of copying the tag into a separate tag, GDC creates 2 subfields in one tag.

    Defect Status

Issue 16384-17297 is resolved for Voyager 8.2.1 and higher.

    Replication steps

    1. Create a Data Change Rule Set that has a
      1. Rule Condition Template of
        Condition: MARC Field/Subfield Exists /
        Field: 035/
        Indicator 1 and 2: */Subfield: a
      2. Rule Consequence Template of
Consequence: Copy MARC Field / Subfield
        From field/subfield:/Field 035 Subfield: a / To new field/subfield: / Field 035 Subfield: a
    2. Add the Change Rule Set to a Change Rule Set Group.
    3. Submit a preview for this set on a bibliographic record that contains a 035a.
    4. Look at the Preview records. Notice that the changed records have one 035 with two subfield a tags.

This does work properly if you are copying data to a different tag (e.g. copy from 035a to 650a).

This issue also affects the creation of new fields with identical tags & indicators to an existing field.

    Workaround

    Execute two data changes.

    • The first to copy 035a to a new field/subfield (i.e., 935a).
    • Then a second to copy 935a to a new 035a.
