Configure Alma circulation desk(s) so that personal delivery items not immediately loaned

    • Product: Alma

    Description

In Alma, items requested for personal delivery that are scanned in at a circulation desk that 'Supports Personal Delivery' will immediately loan to the user. However, for some libraries this may not be desirable.

    Resolution

Use a dedicated circulation desk to prevent immediate loan and distinguish a personal delivery request from other hold requests.

    To set this up:

    1. Create a new 'Personal Delivery' circulation desk that supports personal delivery. (Note that it may be easier to duplicate an existing circ desk.) Ensure the circ desk has the following options selected:
          'Supports personal delivery'
          ‘Has hold shelf’
'Checkout' service for all relevant locations
    2. In the operator tab, assign staff roles for the newly created circ desk
    3. Remove the 'Supports personal delivery' parameter from any other circ desk(s) that should not immediate loan personal delivery items

Now when an item requested for personal delivery is scanned in at any other circ desk, Alma will transit the item to the 'Personal Delivery' circ desk. This alerts staff that this is not for the hold shelf but is for personal delivery. When the item is ready to be sent to the patron, scanning the item at the ''Personal Delivery' circ desk will loan the item to the patron.
