Configuring Asset Display on the Portal

    Overview

This page describes the various ways of displaying assets on the portal. For information on adding assets to a profile see Adding and Editing Content to a Profile. For viewing files in the Viewer on the research hub see Viewing Additional Asset Details.

    Asset Display on the Portal

When viewing an asset on the Esploro portal, the following layout appears by default. You can configure this from the Researcher Portal Configuration page (see Researcher Portal Configuration). The main sections on the page are:

    1. Metadata (Essentials)
    2. Actions
    3. Abstract and keywords
    4. Files and links
    5. Metrics
    6. Related assets
    7. Asset Details

URLs include dedicated markers for improved indexing by Google Scholar.

Special characters in a title such as diacritics are not displayed in the asset link.

Asset Display in the Files Viewer

When you view asset files in the viewer (by selecting View under the Files section), the asset metadata such as title, type, author/creator, license, publisher, copyright statement, academic unit, keywords, local fields, and so forth appears in the right pane. Using the Asset Display in Viewer configuration option, you can customize which metadata fields and  which metadata labels appear for the metadata in the Descriptive Information pane of the Viewer.

To customize the label appearance in the Descriptive Information pane of the Viewer:
    1. Go to the Asset Display in Viewer configuration option (Configuration Menu > Portal & Profiles > Research Portal > Asset Display in Viewer).
    2. Customize the following label characteristics for the Descriptive Information pane:
      • Enabled – Slide the enabled button to the left or right to make the label settings enabled or disabled. When you make them disabled, the labels and their data do not appear in the Descriptive Information pane.
      • Position – Use the Move Up and Move Down arrows to position the rows of labels/data in the order that you prefer to see them appear in the Descriptive Information pane.
      • Description – For each piece of data that appears in the Descriptive Information pane, you can customize the label that precedes it.
Note that the field labels for the local fields (e.g., local_field_1, local_field_2, etc.) come from the local fields configuration (Configuration Menu > Repository > Local Field Names). See Configuring Local Asset Fields for more information.
      • Default – Select the radio button for the default value.
    3. When you are finished customizing the label appearance for the Descriptive Information pane, select Save.

Manage Display of Asset Types (Researcher Deposit Configurations)

You can control the display of asset types on the Researcher Deposit form using the Researcher Deposit Configurations page (Configuration Menu > Portal & Profiles > Researcher Profiles > Researcher Deposit Configurations).

You can select one of the following asset type options:
    • Frequently used - This list is automatically calculated weekly from those asset types used the most often.
    • Suggested only - When selecting this option, you can restrict the asset types the researchers can select to only those that you define. This option is particularly helpful for institutions doing national assessments.
    • Suggested on top - As with the Suggested only option, the suggested options are pre-defined, but the suggested items display at the top of the drop-down list, with the entire list appearing below..
    • Default sort - The complete list, sorted alphabetically.
The configuration is at the institution level and cannot be set by individual departments or researchers.  When selecting Frequently used or Suggested on top, the asset types at the top of the list appear again in the general list below.
