    Working With SIPX

This feature is available only for institutions in North America and must be enabled by Ex Libris.
SIPX is a ProQuest company that provides pay-per-use course related licensing materials for the North American market. When enabled, instructors or librarians can provide direct access to SIPX licensing from Leganto. Depending on your Leganto installation, the materials are either for purchase by the student or they are purchased/cleared by the library.
To enable librarians and instructors to license citations from Leganto:
On the Leganto Customer Setting page (Fulfillment > Fulfillment Configuration > Configuration Menu > Fulfillment > Leganto > Customer Settings), set allow_leganto_license_through_SIPX to true to enable librarians and instructors to license citations from Leganto.
Even if this parameter is set to false, librarians can still license citations using SIPX in Alma on the Edit Reading List page. The workflow is the same as it is in Leganto. The link License Through SIPX appears below each citation on the Edit Reading List page. For more information on this page, see Managing Citations. If you click this link, a dialog box appears with another link - Use SIPX to provide a pay-per-use license for your students. Click this link to open the SIPX website, as described in the example below.
If the resource is provided by SIPX, SIPX provides the PDF. Otherwise you can upload the PDF for which you require a license; if you already uploaded the file to Leganto, the PDF is sent to SIPX during the licensing process.
After returning to Alma, a manual task to approve the license is added to the Approve Requests List. To automatically approve the task, select SIPX as a value for the Citation License Type clause in the digitization profile rules. An example rule was added for this (disabled be default). See Adding a Digitization Profile Rule.
After the citation is licensed through SIPX, the link changes to View SIPX license. Click this link to open SIPX with the license information.
After licensing a citation through SIPX, Alma's metadata for the citation's resource is updated with information from SIPX.
Here is an example of how to license material. For more information on using the SIPX website, see their help menus.
The instructor selects License through SIPX in the citation menu in Leganto.
A new tab with the SIPX website appears. Leganto/Alma information is pre-loaded in the tab.
The instructor refines the search to locate other resources.
The instructor clicks Add to course to select a resource.
The instructor enters any other required information, such as the page range, and clicks Add Reading. If the instructor must first upload the PDF, the button reads Upload Reading File.
The instructor clicks Review File to review the PDF. The PDF appears in a frame in the website.
The instructor clicks Verify File to reserve the entire PDF for the citation, or clicks Create an Excerpt to reserve only certain pages of the PDF.
Back in Leganto, the link Purchase using SIPX (with the price) or View using SIPX appears in the citation, depending on how Leganto was set up by Ex Libris.
